Hope Valley v Walkerville at Woodville Oval

Walkerville are the 2020 Division Four Premiers, after they defeated Hope Valley by 40-points in the Grand Final at Woodville Oval. Heading into the game as the underdogs, the Cats proved they could replicate the form, which saw them beat the Demons in round five. Having come from the elimination-final the Cats were able to complete their fairy-tale, with a great team performance against a strong Demons team. Despite some disappointing losses the Cats produced a high standard of football this season, with a great final’s series reflecting the maturity of their squad. In a tight first term neither team was able to gain full momentum, with the scores level at quarter-time and a great sense of anticipation around the ground to see which team could claim dominance. The Cats were able to gain the ascendency in the second quarter, as they kept the Demons goalless, while kicking six of their own. Trailing by 38-points at half-time to get back into the contest the Demons needed to create more scoring opportunities, with star goalkickers Matthew Min and Jayke Hellmanns being well held. When play resumed in the second-half the Demons produced a greater effort, however the 37-point margin at the final-break and determination of the Cats made a comeback unlikely. Despite the Cats inaccurate goalkicking in the final quarter, they were able to consolidate the premiership after a great season. Best on ground winner Sean Kuerschner ignited the Cats early, with four first-half goals, while Benjamin Walter and Adam Proud played respectable games, with two goals each. For the Demons Mitchell Sandery provided a target up forward with two majors, while Joshua Hand and Lee Duggan’s impressive efforts were capped off, with a goal each. Along with Kuerschner, Tim Woolford and Daniel Callary showed they can stand up on the big stage, while Eddy O’Connor and Joshua Schilling tried their best to lift the Demons intensity. Next year the Cats will be aiming to repeat their 2020 efforts, while the Demons will be eager to maintain their key-players and challenge again.
